Recycling Information for Lower Burrell
Recycling Day for the City of Lower Burrell will be on Tuesdays. Residents are serviced every other week. Please make sure your recyclables are placed out at curbside by 6 am in blue bins on your recycling day. In the event you are not serviced on your scheduled collection day, leave your collection bin out and call 724-335-9875, ext. 208.
Because this is "Single Stream Recycling", nothing needs to be separated (no cardboard).
Obtaining Bins
Households are now permitted to place one recycling container out for pickup on their scheduled pickup date for recycling. Bins are no longer available at the City office and are supplied by the recycling hauler.

Prescription Drugs
Prescription drugs can be brought to the Lower Burrell Police Department during weekday business hours. For more information call 724-339-4287.

Leaf & Limb Disposal Area for Lower Burrell Residents
Please be advised the City of Lower Burrell leaf and limb disposal area is now reopened and available to City of Lower Burrell residents only. The disposal area is behind the brown building at City Hall and will be opened the following times:
- Monday through Thursday: 7 am until 2 pm
- Friday through Sunday: dawn to dusk
Please be advised the City will randomly spot check PA drivers licenses to verify Lower Burrell residency. Non-residents and landscapers / contractors may be cited. In addition, any person(s) dumping illegal material(s) may be cited.
Any required changes to the current operating hours or leaf and limb policy will be advertised publicly and available via our website or by calling City Hall; if you have any questions or comments, please call City Hall at 724-335-9875, ext. 208.
Important Information on Battery Recycling
Household alkaline batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9V) can be thrown into the garbage. Note though that all rechargeable batteries (as well as button batteries) must be recycled. You can recycle rechargeable at most electronic stores (i.e. Staples, Best Buy, Lowes); or at the Lower Burrell Recycling Day events in the spring or fall.
Recycling of Compact Florescent (CFL) bulbs can be done locally at Lowes.

Buying a New Refrigerator or Air Conditioner?
Recycle working refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners and get paid $25 to $35. Allegheny Power will pick up old working units for free and provide a rebate. Contact your electric company for current details of this and other energy efficient rebate programs (PA Act 129) including free CFL light bulbs.

Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling Center is open 3 days a week and 1 Saturday a month. Free electronic recycling.

Recycling Days
Lower Burrell Recycling Days are typically held in April and October of each year at the City of Lower Burrell Police parking lot found at 2800 Bethel Street.
Lower Burrell ECSR Electronics Recycling Day
The fall recycling event for Household and Hazardous Waste (HHW) was held on Saturday, November 7th.
Resources Council Sponsored Events
The PA Resources Council sponsors hazardous collection events in local counties. These HHW items include:
- Antifreeze
- Paint products (oil, thinners, sealants)
- Pesticides
- Pool chemicals, etc.
