Aggressive Driver Enforcement
This program is designed to target specific areas for drivers who commit multiple offenses such as, but not limited to:
- Speeding
- Unsafe lane changing
- Cutting off other drivers
- Disregarding traffic control devices and lights
The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration estimates that about one-third of all crashes, and about two-thirds of the resulting fatalities, can be attributed to aggressive driving.
Buckle Up Program
This is a program the Lower Burrell Police will be actively involved in, as statistics show that seat belts save lives. We will have patrol units covering the highways of our City in search of violations. Click it or ticket. Please buckle up!
Child Car Seat Installation
Are you a Lower Burrell resident in need of assistance with the installation of your child safety seat? Make sure it is installed correctly and safely. Contact Officer Smail by email to make an appointment, or leave him a voicemail at 724-339-4287, ext. 264.
DUI Enforcement Program
This program is designed to target drivers who are under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Coordinated DUI enforcement efforts come from officers participating in the Northern Regional Westmoreland County DUI Taskforce.
Our goal for this program is to remove all intoxicated drivers from the roadways to ensure the safety of the motoring public and pedestrians.
School Zone Safety
This is a program that has been in the City of Lower Burrell for a long time. We pride ourselves with watching over the children and traffic flow as it pertains to the school zones. The school zones are located on Leechburg Road at Bon Air School and Stewart School, and on Puckety Church Road near the secondary school buildings.
The speed limit during the beginning and end of school is 15 miles per hour (mph). This can be identified by the lighted speed limit signals placed on both sides of the road in front of the schools. The hours of operation for the schools' lighted signs are Monday through Friday, as follows:
- Bon Air and Stewart Schools
- 8:30 to 9:10 am
- 3:30 to 4:10 pm
- Burrell High School and Huston Middle School
- 7 to 8:15 am
- 2:30 to 3:45 pm
Fines
Fines start at $148.50 plus 3 points.
Selective Traffic Enforcement Requests
The Selective Traffic Enforcement Request is a program that gives the public an opportunity to inform the Lower Burrell Police Department of traffic violations occurring in specific locations. Once we receive your request for traffic enforcement, we will assign officers to conduct traffic enforcement at this location.
To submit a request, complete our online Traffic Enforcement Request Form.
